MP Ibrahim Kanaan held a meeting on Thursday with Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rahi, in Bkerke, during which both sides discussed the current situation in the country, especially regarding the financial crisis.

"I carry a responsibility as Chairman of the Finance and Budget Committee to have insights on the overall positions," he said, noting that "the adoption of the 2020 state budget would bring benefits and reassurances, and contribute to local and international confidence," stressing that "the decision must be inclusive for the success of the budget approval."

"Designation is important to crystallize the course of forming the government, (...) and the President of the Republic is keen on achieving government formation," Kanaan said, deeming the role of the President as one of compromise so as to ensure a rapid formation of the government.

"The amnesty law was dead on arrival, and we must not walk towards collapse deliberately," he urged. "What is required is concerted efforts to rescue Lebanon, as the collapse of institutions is tantamount to the collapse of the State. (...) Dialogue between the [popular] movement and the political parties is necessary to get out of the crisis."

"No one has any interest in Lebanon becoming an arena," he said. "Bold decisions are needed in the right direction," Kanaan concluded.
