Prime Minister Najib Mikati on Tuesday met at the Grand Serail with the ambassadors and representatives of the European Union missions in Lebanon, with discussions touching on the current situation in Lebanon and the government's plan to address the deteriorating situation, in addition to cooperation between Lebanon and the European Union.
The meeting was attended by the European Union Ambassador to Lebanon, Ralph Tarraf, and the Ambassadors of Spain, Hungary, Poland, Denmark, Cyprus, Italy, Greece, Austria, France, the Netherlands, Czech Republic, Romania and Sweden, as well as Deputy Chiefs of Mission of Finland, Belgium, Slovenia, Slovakia, Germany and Bulgaria, in the presence of Premier Mikati’s Diplomatic Adviser, Ambassador Boutros Asaker.
Following the meeting, EU Ambassador Tarraf said the prime minister briefed them on the government's work program priorities.
Tarraf voiced the EU’s readiness to support the head of government and the Cabinet’s work plan and what it has pledged to implement.
“We particularly encourage the government in its efforts to address the economic crisis that the country is passing through, and the European Union will always stand by Lebanon," Ambassador Tarraf noted.
On the other hand, Premier Mikati received Italian Ambassador to Lebanon, Nicoletta Bombardieri, with the bilateral relations between the two countries featuring high on their talks.
Moreover, Premier Mikati met with Iranian Ambassador to Lebanon, Mohammad-Jalal Firouznia, with whom he discussed the current general situation and the bilateral relations between the two countries.
Among Premier Mikati’s itinerant visitors for today had been State Security Director General, Major General Tony Saliba.
