Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, on Friday welcomed at the Grand Serail United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Joanna Wronecka, with whom he discussed preparations underway for the Security Council’s meeting on November 29, 2021.
“The aim of our consultative meetings with the PM is to review the course of political developments in Lebanon and to set an objective assessment,” Wronecka said on emerging.
“We’ve also discussed the overall situation in Lebanon, and we expressed full support for the government's work, encouraging it to proceed with the required reforms,” she added.
“On a positive note, we’ve informed the PM about a meeting that will be held under the title ‘The Electoral Platform’ on Monday, November 8, under the auspices of the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities, and the participation of ambassadors accredited to Lebanon, with the aim of focusing on the course of the elections scheduled for next March and supporting Lebanon in this regard,” Wronecka said.
“We believe that holding legislative elections within the constitutional deadlines is an internal Lebanese decision, which the United Nations supports,” she concluded.
