The world's oldest person, Jiroemon Kimura, marked another milestone as he celebrated his 116th birthday in Japan, local media reported.
Last December, Kimura became the world's oldest living person after his predecessor, Italian-American, died at the age of 115 years and 241 days.
He is also the oldest living male ever documented in history, according to the Guinness World Records, succeeding Danish-American Christian Mortensen who lived to 115 years 252 days.
Kimura was born on April 19, 1897.
A former postal employee, he has 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
He was hospitalised twice since the end of last year, but was discharged earlier this month.
He now lives at home in Kyotango city, and eats three meals a day.
According to Guinness, Japan has the most centenarians in the world, with the southernmost prefecture of Okinawa having the highest concentration of centenarians - a ratio of 50 per 100-thousand people.
