Who doesn't remember the infamous "Alexa" originating from Russia? The snowstorm that battered Lebanon, blocking roads, forcing schools' closure, and disrupting people's lives nationwide.
Lebanon's winter season had reached its peak with the arrival of Alexa; but alas, the storm came to be a disappointment as the cold northwestern winds weren't coupled with a lot of precipitation, thus leading to the water crisis that the country is currently suffering.
As the Lebanese wonder what the Fall-Winter 2014-2015 season will be like and when will the first rain drops hit the ground, it was vital for us to contact an expert, hoping that we would manage to peer into the forecasts.
Director General of Agricultural Scientific Research Michel Frem told MTV Website that Saturday will witness an increase in temperatures as well as southeastern winds throughout the day with potential rain during the night. Frem also warned fishermen, owners of Greenhouses and apple farmers from the strong winds.
He also noted that Sunday will feature rainfall in multiple areas across the country, along with thunder and strong cold wind coming from Cyprus; a drop in temperatures will also be marked.
Frem pointed out that next week's weather will be reminiscent of the autumn season, heralding warm days and colder nights with precipitation chances rising on Monday and Wednesday.
"We cannot yet determine how winter will be," Frem said, noting that some studies do however imply that rain will be scarce this year.
He also stressed that there is no way to be 100% sure, adding that rain levels should reach up to 1000 mm to make up for last year's deficiency.
Those are the first signs of winter. So will our government, namely the Public Works Ministry, be ready to do their job ahead of the storms? Will this season be as surprising as each year and turn into a natural disaster and a brand new burden to be added to the current crises that we are already witnessing?
Maybe the top priority would be to consider the state in which the families of kidnapped servicemen will be if it does indeed rain on Sunday…
