Agriculture Minister Akram Shehayeb confirmed on Tuesday after meeting with the Patriarch in Bkerki that discussions tackled the exportation of the apple produce, adding that they agreed to support exporting apples from Lebanon to Egypt.
He added that an agreement has been reached with Egyptian president Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to export the apple produce to Egypt, explaining that " the exportation of the apple produce to Jordan would start on 18 October instead of the end of the month and Egypt will import 50 thousand tons of apple."
Shehayeb added that Russia agreed to lower the tax per each ton of apple, calling upon farmers and media outlets to help them to secure the exportation of the apple produce.
Separately, the Minister hoped a positive outcome from the ongoing communications would be reached to end presidential vacuum, adding "we support consensus and back the election of any of the current candidates for the presidency position."
He pointed out that it is necessary to reach an agreement over the new electoral law which should neither eliminate nor harm any party, saying "the dialogue table is the right place to reach agreement on all solutions."
