President Michel Aoun on Monday vowed to push for the endorsement of a bill that officially identifies the Red Cross volunteers killed in the line of duty as martyrs.
"What the Red Cross gives, in times of peace just like in times of war, goes beyond all bounties; and, most remarkably, it is all based on volunteering," he said, highlighting the importance of paying tribute to their sacrifices.
"This is where the draft on recognizing those who died while performing their humanitarian duty as martyrs, stemmed from," he explained, promising to push for its adoption.
Aoun's remarks came during an event he sponsored at Baabda palace, where ten emergency vehicles had been granted by Bank of Beirut to the Lebanese Red Cross.
