Information Minister Jamal Jarrah called for safeguarding media rights, preserving national unity, and steering clear from sectarianism, on Thursday.
"Our loyalty should only be devoted to our homeland, state, and institutions," the Minister said in an address he gave during a celebration held by "Jaroudi Media Group" and "Breaking News" in honor of news correspondents working for various Lebanese and international channels.
The minister also expressed firm belief that Tele Liban was the only source capable of delivering the aforementioned message.
"My office at the Ministry of Information is open to any proposal or opinion that will help us draft the new media law, which had been approved by the Communication and Information Committee," he added.
"The law needs some adjustments to determine who is the media figure, who is the journalist, who is the editor, and who is the infringer. We need to protect the media profession from hackers," he added.
Attending the celebration had been the ambassadors of Algeria, Morocco, Greece, as well as a number of officials and directors of TV channels, and artistic, social and cultural magnates.
