President Michel Aoun said on Tuesday that partnership between Lebanon and the UK enhances the bilateral relations, especially in the fields of business and investment.
"The partnership agreement between Lebanon and Britain bolsters the bilateral ties, ensures the continuity of the legal framework in the commercial relations, and guarantees the good course of businesses, companies, and investments," Aoun told UK Prime Minister's Trade Envoy to Lebanon, Lord Richard John Grenville Spring (Lord Risby).
Lord Risby came to Baabda palace in the company of UK Ambassador to Lebanon, Chris Rampling.
The President underlined to his guest that the bilateral partnership agreement would also enhance openness between Lebanon and the UK, and increase the chances of Lebanese products’' access to the British markets.
Accordingly, he hoped that the British companies would be interested in the opportunities available in Lebanon, especially in the fields of services and technology.
"Lebanon's economic system is liberal and open to cooperation with whoever wishes to cooperate with us and undertake developmental projects under the free competition system," Aoun said, stressing that priority is currently for projects related to electricity, oil and gas, roads and railways, and the development of Beirut seaport.
Aoun did not fail to thank the UK for the support it provides for the Lebanese Armed Forces.
For his part, Lord Risby highlighted his country's determination to consolidate and develop the economic cooperation with Lebanon in all sectors.
He also maintained that his Beirut visit only proves Lebanon's importance to the UK.
