Governor of the Central Bank, Riad Salameh, stressed in his speech at the 9th CSR Forum "we continue to subsidize loans to the housing sector," pointing out that the role of the Central Bank would be licensing and supervision, which would leave the markets free to act in regards to regulations."
Salameh stressed that "the digital currency will only be in Lebanese pounds." "We remind everyone that the lira is the currency of the country, and we continue to secure the stability of the exchange rate."
"We are entrusted with the exchange rate of the lira, and today we have found out that the exchange rate difference between the dollar and the lira is one that has always existed. Since June, money demand for banknotes has increased and the exchange rate has risen," he explained.
The Central Bank Governor announced that "the money and dollar banknotes markets are only influenced by the Central Bank of Lebanon in terms of regulation."
