Minister of National Defense, Elias Bou Saab, received the EU Ambassador to Lebanon, Ralph Tarraf, and discussed with him the general situation in Lebanon and the region, especially in light of the military operation led by Turkey on the Turkish-Syrian border and the possible repercussions on Lebanon which provides refuge to a large number of Syrian refugees.
The minister briefed his guest on the conditions at the northeastern border of Lebanon, praising the "hard work done by the Lebanese Army to control the area."
The ambassador expressed the EU's readiness to "support the Lebanese Army to move forward with its [control] project and to modernize State institutions."
Minister Bou Saab then welcomed the Egyptian Ambassador to Lebanon, Nazih Al-Najari, on a farewell visit to mark the end of his duties in Lebanon.
Among Bou Saab's visitors for today was the Ambassador of Sri Lanka, Mendis Wijeratne, who briefed her on the conditions of the Sri Lankan contingent operating within the UNIFIL.
The Minister also welcomed Italy's Ambassador, Massimo Marotti, and President of the Order of Malta in Lebanon, Marwan Sahnawi, with an accompanying delegation.
