Caretaker Minister of Social Affairs, Richard Kouyoumjian on Thursday called upon "the ruling authority to accelerate the formation of a government of technocrats that are purely independent and competent."
"The solution lies in the formation of a new mini-government of rescue comprised of competent specialists, having as priority the need to rescue the country's acute financial, living and monetary conditions, otherwise the ceiling will collapse on us all. Things can no longer tolerate further economic deterioration, and Lebanon is at the heart of the financial collapse," the caretaker minister said, stressing that "in Lebanon today, there are new dreams, new realities and a new history."
Kouyoumjian urged the President to launch the consultations at the soonest possible, revealing "continued contacts between the Lebanese Forces and PM Saad Hariri, amid lack of communication with the President."
Noting that the LF does not object to having Hariri assigned as PM, the minister said "we adhere to an independent government away from the parties rejected by the street."
He expressed his wish that Hezbollah and the Free Patriotic Movement would "realize the gravity of the current economic and living situation, and accept the formation of a government of specialists that enjoys the trust of the Lebanese people, and the trust of donor countries and international monetary institutions, especially the World Bank."
