President Michel Aoun received at Baabda palace on Wednesday, the Apostolic Nuncio to Lebanon, Archbishop Joseph Spiteri, with whom he tackled an array of latest developments and current affairs.
During the meeting, Spiteri relayed to his host "the Holy See's support for the efforts exerted to resolve the current problems," as well as the Pope's solidarity towards the Lebanese people.
He also expressed the Holy See's hope for a swift government formation, as well as for dialogue to reach satisfactory solutions.
Separately, Aoun met with former minister Karim Pakradouni, over the current situation on the local scene.
On a different note, the President received congratulatory cables upon the Independence Day, namely from King Abdullah II of Jordan and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
Aoun also received congratulations from President Ram Nath Kovind of India, President Halimah Yacob of Singapore, and President Ali Bongo Ondimba of Gabon.
