Linda Thomas-Greenfield has said that Hamas “should accept” the “deal on the table” in an interview.
Responding to a question on Hamas reportedly asking for more Palestinian prisoners to be released, the US ambassador to the UN said: “We have been clear that we support a ceasefire with the release of hostages. And Hamas is not in a position to make demands.”
Alongside Egypt and Qatar, the United States has been acting as a mediator in the talks between Israel and Hamas.
Hamas' political official Ezzat El-Reshiq said on Monday the group will “not compromise” on the demands of a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and the return of displaced families to their homes.
El-Reshiq said Israel wanted a “temporary agreement to evacuate its hostages, only to resume its genocidal war afterwards”.
