A delegation representing the Lebanese Green Party participated in the "COP 25 Climate Change Conference" recently held in the Spanish capital, Madrid, where members of the delegation met with their fellow colleagues from other participating Green Parties, and attended the work sessions and activities of the Conference.
According to an issued statement by Lebanon's "Green Party, it indicated the Madrid Conference this year tackled "ways to enhance the implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement, at a time when new data shows that climate conditions are getting worse on a daily basis, and climate changes are impacting the lives of people everywhere."
It cited some of the reasons behind these climate changes that are negatively influencing human life on this plant, be it the extremely high temperatures, increased levels of pollution in the air, forest fires, frequent floods, or even droughts.
The party's delegation pointed out that "Lebanon suffers from these climate changes on more than one level, and was subjected to major fires that lasted for days and wiped out areas of forests and greenery in the country."
The Lebanese delegation called for "combating pollution, caring for trees and switching to environmentally-friendly industries and alternative energy," while highlighting the need for Lebanon "to fulfill its international obligations to combat climate change."
