In an issued statement on Sunday by the Lebanese Army Command 's Orientation Directorate, it called for staying away from promoting any false news related to the military institution under the penalty of legal prosecution.
"Some social media sites shared photos of a general officer with false information and fabricated news. The Army's leadership warns of the seriousness of this matter and reaffirms the necessity of refraining from circulating images and promoting false news related to the military institution, under the penalty of legal prosecution," the statement said.
It also denied the circulated photos of an individual alleged to be an Army control officer, assuring that he is not a member of the military institution.
The Army Command, thus, urged all media and social networking sites to maintain accuracy and verification of any information or news before circulation.
