The Lebanese Presidency’s press office on Monday responded to Caretaker Prime Minister Saad Hariri’s recent statement on the postponement of the binding parliamentary consultations.
“Claims alluding to a constitutional breach actually represent those who are coming up with them to start with,” the statement read.
Earlier on Monday Hariri said that the Free Patriotic Movement was planning to place its votes at the disposal of the President of the Republic “so that he uses them as he wishes.”
“It is an occasion to warn against repeating the same constitutional breach that martyr Prime Minister Rafic Hariri faced during President Emile Lahoud’s term, and to confirm that Prime Minister Hariri cannot cover such a serious constitutional violation, regardless of its use, in designating any Prime Minister,” Hariri’s statement explained.
However, the Presidency’s statement utterly refused Hariri’s stance, deeming it an “exposed” move to cover up for the real reason behind the postponement of consultations.
“Those behind claims of a constitutional breach should have familiarized themselves with the constitutional rules and jettisoned practices that contradict with the letter and spirit of the constitution,” the presidency’s statement added.
The statement finally confirmed President Michel Aoun’s keenness on the Lebanese constitution, affirming that the latter was “not in need of any sort of lessons from anyone.”
