Director of Rafik Hariri University Hospital (RHUH), Dr. Firas Abiad, explained on Friday the ability of the coronavirus vaccine to reduce the risk of infection in society, in the following tweet:
"Accumulating evidence indicates that coronavirus vaccines can significantly reduce the spread of the virus through two mechanisms; firstly, the vaccine reduces the likelihood of contracting the virus, with or without symptoms, which reduces the number of carriers in the community, and secondly, even in rare cases when those who receive the vaccine become infected, several studies have shown that the possibility of secondary transmission of the virus from the infected person to others is low due to the effect of the vaccine in reducing the duration or degree of infection."
"The arrival of more vaccines in Lebanon is promising," Dr. Abiad added.
"The next obstacle that we will face is the reluctance of some to receive the vaccine (32% of adults in the world according to a recent census), and this requires a greater effort to spread awareness and facilitate the mechanism for receiving the vaccine. In short, the path to salvation and return to a normal life has become more clear," Dr. Abiad assured.
