The Free Patriotic Movement political body held its periodic meeting today, chaired by its Chief, MP Gebran Bassil, following which an issued statement considered that the formation of the government gave hope to the Lebanese to enter a period of stability and stop the collapse.
The Political Council pledged that its parliamentary bloc would follow closely with the government in everything related to the citizen's interest to provide a social safety net.
Commenting on Israel's extraction of gas from the disputed area with Lebanon, the participants denounced these measures, saying that "Israel's conduct of any gas, extraction and production activity in the disputed area north of Line 29 is an attack on Lebanon which requires taking executive measures to fully preserve borders and rights.”
The conferees also stressed “the importance of holding the parliamentary elections on time and in accordance with the current law, including the right of expatriates to vote and representation in their place of residence, and preserving their right to elect six representatives to represent them,” rejecting any attempt to undermine this right under any pretext.
On the other hand, the "Free Patriotic Movement" stressed the need for "the judiciary and security agencies to carry out their duties in pursuing wanted fugitives from justice and accused of smuggling and storing petroleum and nitrates."
