Ever wondered what successful people do differently than regular folk? What’s that secret sauce that distinguishes a normal life from an extraordinary one?
Look no further, I’ve got the answer for you right here, right now: Morning Routines.
Your morning routine sets the tone for your day and either propels you forward with purpose and intent, and optimizes your performance, or it dampens all your efforts at improving your circumstances.
According to Mel Robbins, a brilliant and insightful American podcast host, author, motivational speaker, and former lawyer, you have to keep the promise you make to yourself every morning, build ironclad confidence and create a Winner’s Morning Routine setting you up for success. This way you will know that you can count on yourself when you go through hardships. When the going gets tough, the tough get going.
The moment the alarm clock rings in the morning you have a decision to make. Will you hit the snooze button and procrastinate on your life, or will you jump out of bed full of anticipation for the day ahead?
Let’s get something straight, hitting the snooze button is the worst thing you could possibly do, because when you drift back to sleep and suddenly snap out of it, you will be in a sort of sleep-walking state for the next four hours. The scientific terminology is sleep inertia. The first two hours are when your mind is at its sharpest so you’re pretty much short-changing yourself.
When the alarm rings, get that butt right out of bed.
Speaking of bed, tidy it up while you’re at it. Even if you have help at home, do it. It gets the ball rolling on getting things done and It’s a little gift for yourself when you walk back in your room later in the day and you see it all neat and proper.
The next step would be to get outside for 10 mins to reset your body clock, your circadian rhythm. This aids in having better quality of sleep.
In the meantime, either go for a fast-paced walk for at least 10 mins or get a workout in. This is just what the doctor ordered to add years to your life as proven by research. What’s more, walking helps clear the mind and stimulates creativity.
Now is the time to exercise your mind. Write in a journal or meditate for 10 mins to really open that puppy up and get the creative juices flowing.
Are you ready for this one? Because this is the game-changer and what’s been shown to be most effective to getting you closer to a life you envision for yourself. Allocate another 5, 10 or 15 minutes to doing something that matters to you, that will inch you closer to something you desire, whatever it may be. If you’re thinking of starting a business, make small moves every day to accomplish it.
After you’re done brushing your teeth, set an intention for the day, how you want to show up in the world: bold and unapologetic, or defiant and taking no crap from anyone, or optimistic and radiating positivity. Then, high-five yourself in the mirror. You’re congratulating your future self on getting stuff done and being awesome. You got this, you got you.
