Khalil asks Bassil to resign, says apology not enough
Development and Liberation Parliamentary bloc MP Anwar Al-Khalil, called on Minister Gebran Bassil on Tuesday to "resign today because an apology is not enough to fix the situation."
MP Khalil's words came in response to leaked statements by Foreign Minister Gebran Basill, describing Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri a "thug".
"No excuse can justify the attack on a great national figure like Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri," Al-Khalil said, adding that questioning the Free Patriotic Movement's rhetoric has become necessary.
The MP also warned that the public statements of Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil, not only the recent leaks, but also his overall political behavior, could promote denominational divide in Lebanon.
