MP Paula Yacoubian held a press conference on Monday, during which she responded to a campaign that has been being held against her since she attempted confronting some political sides with corruption issues.
"Those who heard the words of MPs and statements of party leaders during the cabinet's confidence session could feel as if there had been unanimity nation wide on a collective will to fight corruption; however, there seems to be consensus on the protection of corruption and the protection of the corrupt," Yacoubian said.
She mentioned how she had been being politically and personally attacked after her speech during the confidence session, in which she highlighted corruption in the employment dossier, as well as those that involve the electricity sectors and incinerators. She mentioned as well a libel lawsuit filed by Minister Gebran Bassil against her person.
"The importation of fuel from one country to another saves the state $200 million a year, and the law approves the importation of fuel from one country to another; nonetheless, Lebanon continued importing fuel for 11 years through only two families," she said as quoting Jawad Adra.
She confirmed her support for the army, condemning accusations that she had been challenging the army.
