President Michel Aoun met at Baabda Palace Wednesday with Middle East and North Africa Director of the Leaders for Democracy Fellowship (LDF) program implemented by World Learning, Chantal Souaid Mchantaf, and an accompanying delegation.
The Program is funded by the US State Department's American-Middle East Partnership and includes young people from various Arab countries.
President Aoun stressed in front of the delegation that "if the existing track based on the so-called "Deal of the Century" persists, peace cannot be achieved in the Middle East...".
Aoun emphasized that any peace between peoples should only be based on the principle of justice and acceptance of the other. "This is still missing," he added.
The President stressed that peace should be a just one; otherwise, it would be tantamount to imposing a fait accompli on the Arab peoples.
In her word, Mchantaf said that the Leaders for Democracy Fellowship program (LDF) aims to develop inclusive governance and empower civil society in the Middle East and North Africa.
President Aoun welcomed the delegation in Lebanon, saying "Lebanon is a hospitable country and we support the work of the program in terms of encouraging the young generation, especially women, to engage in public work."
The Head of State stressed the importance of encouraging women to engage more and more in the political domain, pointing out that "women in Lebanon enjoy full civil and political rights since the 1950s."
In a chat with the delegation, President Aoun said "Lebanon has an economic plan that will bring about radical changes in the economic structures, in order to face the various modern challenges and get out of the current crisis."
On the other hand, Aoun met with a delegation of the Kuwait Red Crescent Society, chaired by Hilal Al-Sayer, in presence of Kuwaiti Ambassador to Lebanon, Abdel Aal Souleiman Al Qenai.
Aoun also met with Head of the Constitutional Council, Judge Tannous Meshleb, with talks reportedly touching on means of enhancing Council's work.
