President Michel Aoun said on Tuesday that the battle to fight corruption has begun, stressing that there are several hurdles that must be resolved as the current situation can no longer persist.
"We have started today our fight against corruption; I have been waiting for the post-election government to lead this battle with higher efficiency, but this doesn't prevent us to start it," Aoun said.
"There are several hurdles that we need to overcome, and I will call things by their names as the current situation cannot persist," he added.
Aoun made these remarks during his meeting at Baabda Palace with a delegation of the Ministry of Energy and Water, chaired by Caretaker Minister Cesar Abi Khalil.
Aoun later met with Commander of the U.S. Central Command, General Joseph Votel, who came on a farewell visit upon his retirement.
Aoun also received Deputy Director of the International Monetary Fund's Middle East and Central Asia region, Thanos Arvantis, with talks touching on the means of cooperation in all fields.
The pair also discussed the necessity to carry on with the national economic plan and the recommendations of CEDRE conference.
