Prime Minister Najib Mikati on Thursday chaired at the Grand Serail a meeting by the committee tasked to address the repercussions of the financial and economic crises on the operation of public facilities.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Saade Chami and Ministers of Justice Henry El-Khoury; Finance Youssef Khalil; Social Affairs Hector Hajjar; Industry George Boushekian; Interior and Municipalities Bassam Mawlawi; Public Works and Transportation Ali Hamieh; Labor Mustafa Bayram; Economy and Trade Amin Salam, as well as the Director-General of the Presidency of the Republic, Dr. Antoine Choucair, the Secretary General of the Council of Ministers, Judge Mahmoud Makieh, and the head of the Civil Service Council, Nisreen Machmouchi .
Speaking at the end of the meeting, Premier Mikati said that social assistance amounting to half a month’s salary will be paid for the months of November and December before the holidays, provided that said amount is not less than 1 and a half million Lebanese pounds nor exceeding 3 million Lebanese pounds. This social assistance will be given to all public sector employees, including workers, employees, contractors, retirees.
Mikati also indicated that the committee has also approved a daily transportation allowance of 64,000 Lebanese pounds, effective the beginning of November 2021.
